Yutori & Yoga
Yutori is a Japanese concept with many different definitions and interpretations. It revolves around creating times and spaces in your life to live mindfully, enjoy the present and not be in a rush. One of it's translations is “spaciousness”! Learning about this word really helped me create time and space for myself to grow and heal. Some ways I’ve incorporated yutori into my life are doing fewer activities, sitting still in nature, and creating a schedule that centers a slower life.
Yoga also has many different definitions and interpretations. One way to start defining it is that it’s a practice toward an optimal state of consciousness with ancient roots in India. There are many positive effects and benefits of practicing yoga, such as heightened self-awareness, stronger mental control, and bringing union to mind and body. This is achieved through physical movement, breath and energy exercises, meditation, and many other practices, philosophies, lifestyles and tools.
These two ideas have been crucial to my own journey of growth and self-care. I wanted to share what I’m learning in case someone else finds any of it helpful.
I’m Britt
As a years-long desk worker often hunched over a computer, I started looking for ways to counter the physical and mental tolls my career was having on me. Enter yutori and yoga.
I’ve been practicing yoga since 2010 and completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Hatha / Vinyasa at Loka Yoga School in 2024. Please click the link below to see my registered Yoga Alliance profile and complete list of certifications and trainings.
I try to incorporate both yutori and yoga into my daily life and have noticed a lot of improvement to my physical and mental health.
That said, I am not a doctor, physician or therapist of any sort. I have not gone to medical school. This site is meant purely as a sharing of knowledge from my experiences. Every person, mind and body is different and I will always encourage people to take their health into their own hands and contact medical professionals if you feel you need to.
