Slowing Down
When life feels like it’s passing by and you don’t have any control, that can lead to burnout, stress, anxiety, and a handful of other unpleasant mental health effects.
For me, slowing down has been a positive way to lower those feelings of life passing me by, and therefore lower burnout and anxiety. When I consciously take time out of my day and think through some of the below thoughts, I am able to continue my day afterward feeling a little more refreshed and in control.
Saying “No, thank you” is OK and allowed
Blocking out time during the day to sit still or do nothing is also OK and allowed
Recognizing that good things take time
Re-realizing that consistency is key
Acknowledging that intention matters
Acknowledging that self care tactics can look different depending on person, place, timing, needs and wants
Practicing traditional meditation is a great way to slow down
Acknowledging that also many activities can be performed in a meditative state
Acknowledging that engaging with thoughts and actions is a choice
Admitting that slowing down feels really good for me and this season of my life, but it may not be for everyone
Meditation, especially loving kindness meditation, can be really helpful
Practicing increased self awareness and learning to direct my thoughts is also very helpful
Walking around the neighborhood taking pictures of flowers is one activity I lean into for slowing down.
